[HANASHIR:15742] Re: Am Yisrael Chai



We had discussed this already awhile ago.  I think it's from Kiddush Levana if I remember correctly.  Shlomo added on the "Od avinu chai" part later.

His melody was composed as the leaders of Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry approached Shlomo to wite a niggun for them.  Rabbi Avi Weiss of Hebrew Instittue of Rivendale can elaborate on this.  He spoke about it at Shlomo's levaya.
