I just finished a 30-Song Kabbalat Shabbat CD for my congregation (along
w/music partner, Scott Leader) and got permission to record every song - only
one of the composers asked me for some monetary compensation for doing so, and
that compensation ($36) went to a charitable organization that he runs. Most
composers are very flattered, as I have been, to be included in congregational
projects. Hey - if we were in this for the money, we wouldn't be composers of
Jewish music! It's not that hard to do, and you can find most of the composers
& contact information online. I'll be happy to pass on the information I have
collected - when you're ready, give me a shout. I'm creating a link on my
congregation's website with copyright information, website links, etc. for each
composer (no, it' s not ready yet....) . The songwriters usually ask for two
copies - I'm just about to send those out.....
