The fact that the ONLY IN AMERICA conference takes place at the same 
time as the UAHC National Biennial speaks volumes about where the 
contemporary music genre fits into the musical agenda of JTS/Milken 
Arkive. Not that there needs to be equal billing for contemporary music 
in this conference; but, the title is "Only in America".

It is true that only in America could we freely and successfully blend 
the musical traditions of Eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal, Syria, and 
Israel to honor and perpetuate the rich musical heritage of our 
ancestors. But, only in America could we have a generation bold enough 
to, with the same degree of soul and chutzpadik that Lewandowski, 
Sulzer and others did, create a new genre of music that will ensure 
that the youth and their American-born parents have a Jewish music that 
is theirs to celebrate and relate to. Yes, only in America could we 
blend chazzanut, chassidic nigunim and guitars in a service, turning 
the entire country on a new ear. Only in America are people's CD 
changers full of Jewish music that is message driven, well-produced and 
sounds AMERICAN!
