[HANASHIR:15510] RE: Reflux

Cantor Kroll is right about some of the foods that you have to avoid with the
acid reflux condition. In conjunction with avoiding the foods he listed,
reflux sufferers are also asked to do the following:
1. Once you start acid reducing medicines, always take it. Don't forget, or
it may come back worse than before.
2. Eat small meals several times a day. Avoid heavy meals.
3. Drastically reduce your intake of fatty foods. Fat tends to remain in
the stomach for a long time.
4. Control your weight. Being overweight can make it worse.
5. Raise the head of your bed about 6 inches. I have mine on cinder blocks.
Also, some people have found relief by sleeping on a foam wedge of some kind.
6. Reduce or halt your consumption of alcohol.

I have been a sufferer of acid reflux for many years. The above advice
has been a great help to me, and I hope that it will help other singers.

Audrey Katz and fellow reflux sufferers,
If you really want to save your chords from reflux with or without medication:
No caffeine, no decaf, (there’s acid in the beans), no Coke/Pepsi no
chocolate, no spicy foods, no citric acid: tomatoes, orange juice… even
pineapple
juice (my favorite) is out. Just bread and water and
“Stuffed cabbage! I love stuffed cabbage,” (2000 year old man). Yes it’s
boring but… ya wanna sing ‘til you retire? Ya make sacrifices.
Happy and Healthy singing in the next days. These are the days of Oy!)
