I agree, which is one reason why we have never had auditions (and I do have
a "true" monotone, but she loves it).

I agree, most of the time, but pre-HHD is an especially big deal. One person
messing up can really lower the overall quality, much as a whole violin
section can sound bad if only one player doesn't play in tune. I feel they
owe it to each other to do their best to be there -- which, again, most do.
