[HANASHIR:15349] Re: background for Hava Nagila?

Here¹s the text that introduces ³Hava Nagila² in The International Jewish
Songbook (V. Pasternak, Tara Publications, 1994):

³More than any other song, Hava Nagila represents Israeli music to the world
at large. It has been recorded and sung by singers of many nationalities.
The melody is Hassidic and was composed in the court of the Sadigura Rebbi.
It was introduced to Palestine in the early 1900s by the noted Jewish
musicologist, Abraham Zvi Idelsohn, and given its famous text by Moshe
Nathanson.²
