well, a miracle certainly did happen here.  i made a cd!  it only took two 
computers and various chords.  

i edited the mini-disc on the ibm with the sony openmg jukebox that came with 
the mini disc.  we then fed the songs that i wanted to copy into my partner's 
mac through an iMic because there is no audio input plug on her iBook.  Then 
we used AudioX software which worked nicely after which we copied it into 
iTunes to burn the cd.  whew!  

exhausting, but a learning experience.
