Visit with Henrietta Szold on an afternoon in December 1940, in her
apartment in Jerusalem on her 80th birthday...
Not one Life, But Several, is based on the writings, speeches, letters and
diary of Henrietta Szold. Following Miss Szold's custom of inviting guests
to her home on Saturday afternoons, Muriel Nussbaum imagines that on this
special birthday, Miss Szold allows a flood of memories to overtake her and
shares them with her visitors. She remembers her first visit to Palestine,
the beginnings of Hadassah and its growth, her work with Youth Aliyah and
her struggles to develop medical and social services in Palestine. She
recalls, too, the personal events that brought her to Palestine in the first
place. Henrietta Szold was a woman of extraordinary accomplishments -- to
many a saint and a genius. In this 55 minute program we learn about the
forces which shaped her life and motivated her actions. It is a look at the
personal side of a public woman. Bring your family and friends to
“meet”
one of the great women of Jewish history.
A quote from Theodore Bikel...
"As a Zionist and a Jew I was transported back to the days of the Youth
Aliyah, to the memory of a woman I had never met but who had helped shape my
life when I was a young boy struggling with the land. As a man of the
theater I was also transported -- to that higher plane where history and
memory are given life by graceful artistry, Thank you, Muriel."
