IT'S A UNION! protecting the jobs. the union also protects the supply and
creates the demand. There was no conservative cantor in Atlanta for almost
a year. the demand is there. the need is there. Those who go through the
training and become cantors at one of the seminariesare to be commended,
lauded, and praised. They should be able to demand larger salaries. No
doubt or problem. However, as is the case with rabbi's there is a need for
alternatives. Cantorial schools were not always the way of becoming a
cantor.....I wonder if Rosenblatt or any of the cantors of the early 20th
century would have been accepted by the cantor's association?
