The Jewel Song (Bareket) is a good wedding song actually used these days. The
Hebrew words are by Ehud Manor (translated from my original English lyrics).
Both are found in the Israel World Beat songbook and the Hebrew version is
recorded on the CD.
I'd be happy to send the music.
words in English;
If I gave to you a jewel
Filled with colors of the rainbow
Would you hold it to the sunlight
Watch it changing by your window
Refrain: As on and on in endless race,
Love is a swell of time
If the sky turned red and golden
\And the waves upon the sand rose
Would you watch till dawn has risen
And the day comes as the tide goes
Ref: On and on in endless race
Life is a swell of time
When the sky begins to darken
And the clouds rage out their thunder
Stay here while the lightening flashes
Till the storm has ceased its anger
Ref:
When our jewel's lost its lustre
And the colors shine less brightly
Will you still be hgere beside me
Whispering words that echo softly
Ref: As on and on in endless race
Life is a swell of time
and on and on in endless race
Life is a swell of time
and
repeat first verse
Last refrain:
On and on in endless race
Life is a swell of time ----- 3x then and GRACE
(I composed it quite a number of years ago and it was taken by Jose Feliciano
who arranged and sang it but ended up not recording it. Ah well! My close
encounter with fame and fortune.)
In any case, it was a favorite request at our recent Israeli concert tour. And
is part of the Women Weaving Words program at CAJE.
