I'm sad to see such acrimony on this list. Perhaps we can share our
perspectives w/o sarcasm, etc. I understand how Rahel feels. I especially
felt that way when I lived in a small town, with a tiny Jewish
population, where my kids were bombarded with questions about whether
they were excited about Santa & the Easter Bunny. I craved a "safe" place
to be Jewish. On the other hand, Dan Freelander & Jeff Klepper have both
pointed out how so many of the folk artists were Jewish, and how that
colored their work. However, I think there are more constructive ways to
express both points of view. Perhaps we can agree on discussing the give
and take between Judaism/Jewish culture, and the history of folk music in
this country. But please, let's keep it civil. I don't want to lose any
Hava Nashira alumni!
