Chevrei,
It brings me great pleasure to announce the release of the first ever compiled
works of Cantor Richard Silverman of Temple Israel in Westport, CT.
You are certainly familiar with Cantor Silverman's ever-popular "It is a Tree
of Life" and "Ya ba ba bim bim bam" Mi Chamocha. While typesetting his book, I
have enjoyed learning over 60 more of his pieces, composed for easily learned
congregational singing. Spanning 4 decades of his involvement in Jewish music,
they cover themes from liturgical and biblical texts to life cycle events. The
book also includes several much-needed folk settings of *High Holy Day* liturgy
(which I myself plan to use at family services this fall). Yet another section
contains songs of peace and social action/justice. While most of the songs in
this section were written during the Vietnam War, the lyrics are still fresh
and relevant to today's world situation.
The 120-page songbook is mostly in lead sheet form (lyrics, notes, and guitar
chords). A number of songs have piano accompaniment and/or are arranged for 3-
or 4-part choir. To order or find out more information, please call the Music
Complex toll free at (866) 214-1300. They should also be available at the
upcoming ACC convention in New York City.
B'shirah,
