[HANASHIR:13925] Chad Gadya

Shalom,
I am getting numerous requests for the Chad Gadya that
is acted out, as I suggested to Rosalie Boxt. So, I
prefer to post the words here, and the general idea,
and, if anyone wants the tune they can call me
privately and it takes about 1 minute to sing it over
the phone. (Tel: 847-279-0473)
There are no preset actions: the children take or are
assigned parts, costumes or bare props are created,
either simply or fully designed, depending on your
means.
The verses allow for creative movement for any age.
One rehearsal alone can determine the entrances,
exits, and movements. Or, you can rehearse it with
real direction and choreography, again, depending on
your means.
I've done this with a small family group (the children
do multiple parts and have a blast changing costumes),
and in kibbutzim with up to 1000 people at the
seder(many children play the same character in
groups). They both work wonderfully!
The adults sing the very easy tune, with or without
accompaniment, and all join in on the chorus, with all
the children dancing in a circle for the last repeated
chorus.
Someone asked if I would bring the materials with the
written tune to Hava Nashira, which I will be happy to
do. In the meantime, call me if you need the tune for
this year.
Anyway, if you want it, here it is:

HAD GADYA
(Kibbutz Negba version, translated by Timna and Ilana
Axel)
Intro:
Gather ?round and listen friends to the tale that
never ends,
And its name is Chad Gadya, found right in the
Haggadah! Chad Gadya? 4x
1. Father at the market site bought a baby goat so
white,
Here?s the kid so soft and clean, Father bought for
two zuzim. Chad Gadya? 4x
2. Then the cat came from behind, evil thoughts were
on his mind,
Pounced without another thought, ate the kid that he
had bought. Chad Gadya? 4x
3. Then the dog without a glance ran ahead and gave no
chance,
Bit the cat and never ceased, soon the cat became his
feast. Chad Gadya? 4x
4. Then the stick against him raised beat the dog ?til
he was dazed,
Never in his short dog life had he suffered such great
strife. Chad Gadya? 4x
5. Then the fire so enraged burst out in a fiery blaze
With his flames he took a lick, and consumed the
guilty stick. Chad Gadya? 4x
6. Then the water gushed right up, rushed upon the
fire?s top,
Angry at his fiery games, she extinguished all his
flames. Chad Gadya? 4x
7. Then the bull, his thirst so great, came upon the
watery state,
Took a sip and then some more, soon the water was no
more. Chad Gadya? 4x
8. Then the butcher fast approached looking for a
tasty roast,
Saw the bull, prepared his knife, slew the beast and
took his life. Chad Gadya? 4x
9. From the sky, now gray and stark, came the Angel of
the Dark,
Took away the butcher?s breath, left us with another
death. Chad Gadya? 4x
10. From the skies a heav?nly sound, angels? voices
all around,
?No more killing, no more pain!
Peace on earth shall always reign!? Chad
Gadya? 4x

May the last words come true as soon as possible!
Biv'racha,
Ilana Axel
