[HANASHIR:13781] Re: Songs about light

I have used a song whose beginning lyrics are: "Give Light and the People
will find the way."
It meets all of your requirements, and I have used it at elementary school
and with adults and in secular and non-secular settings.. The only problem
is that I don't have the music written out. Perhaps this answer will jog
someone else's memory of the song.

Hi all!

Please help with repertoire suggestions for songs pertaining to "light".
I'm leading music for our area's 6th annual "Interfaith Gathering" and the
theme is "light". I will be working with the 1-day choir (volunteers from
all the churches, mosques, etc involved) for one piece, Dan Nichols "Or
Zarua". But I'm hoping you can give me some help on the two congregational
pieces that we'll be doing. Ideally, they would be easy to pick up, easy to
sing, and be universal in audience (if such a thing is possible). All your
suggestions would be much appreciated!

btw, it doesn't have to be liturgical music because this is not a true
service, but a "gathering". Earlier in the program, each of the faith groups
(including various Christian denominations, B'hai, Moslems, Hindu, Buddhist,
Native Americans and more!) will present a ritual from their tradition that
has to do with light to share (these are all done in various break-out
rooms). Participants will have the opportunity to pick three presentations
to go see. We will be doing Shabbat candlelighting. Then everyone will come
together as a group. This is when the singing begins! This is where I need
to choose 2 pieces for the whole group to sing (printed in their programs).
The choir will also sing during this part. Thanks again for any suggestions!
