[HANASHIR:13621] Re: What About Musical Fairness?

The Grammys? Money? Fame?
Huh?

I'm reminded of a single-A minor league ball game I attended a couple of
years ago. We got cheap seats in the left field, right above the bullpen.
During pitching warmups, I listened as the practice catcher complained,
loudly and colorfully, about how he was here to get to The Show, and why on
earth wouldn't they put him in a game (so he could be seen). He'd been
nothing but a practice catcher since the start of the season and he was
bummed because the team had so much depth that he hadn't gotten any at-bats.
He went on at length until a guy sitting by us spat out a wad of chew and
yelled down at him what we were surely all thinking: "Hey, you down there!
Anytime you don't wanna wear that uniform anymore, you let me know. I'll
trade my job for yours in a heartbeat, and YOU can drive my garbage truck all
day long. So quit yer moanin'!". The crowd in the cheap seats roared its
approval as our hero re-filled his cheek and grinned broadly.

My point: I just made a CD and it may NEVER find its way into a section
called "conteporary Jewish music" at the local record store? I may not sell
even half of the measly 500 copies I could afford to have made? I may never
play anywhere but local coffeehouses and my shul? I may need to keep my bike
shop job to pay the rent?

Okay. I'm fine with that. I still get to play.
