[HANASHIR:13449] Re: Song for the Columbia

Robin, you may want to try my "We Will Remember Them," which uses Rabbi Jack
Riemer's poem (Gates of Prayer, p. 552) with only a few minor word
adaptations. While the melody isn't familiar, by the time you're on the
second verse of five, everyone will have picked right up on it. The melody
is designed to be sung by a congregation, so if you've got a choir helping
lead, the congregation will have absolutely no problem singing along if
presented with a songsheet. I used it Sunday with a 5th/6th grade music
class of typically reluctant singers but they immediately joined in without
ever having heard it before and sang it in a very heartfelt manner.

It's in my Jewish Life Cycle songbook. If you don't have a copy, let me
know and I'll fax the sheet music for "We Will Remember Them" to you on
Wednesday.

If other hanashir members need it urgently, please email me privately and
I'll work something out. Just let me know.

The song concludes, "So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are a
part of us. And we will remember them."

>My choir would like to sing something special at
Shabbat services, in memory of the crew of the
Columbia. Any suggestions of something
appropriate, that the congregation might know?
Thanks in advance.
