Hi,
Recently I requested some Yiddish songs for an immigration curriculum. I
received some terrific help. I had copies of many of the songs, but no
translations. For song translations I found the following site a tremendous
help: www.princeton.edu/zemerl.
The site is easy to use.
I was able to find Yiddish transliterations for more verses than I have,
English translations to the verses, a different copy for classroom use, and
information on some of the composers and lyricists. You could also listen to
different versions of the songs, with suggested CDs where you could hear the
songs. Those were accessible from the site.
The site had more than Yiddish songs, but that was my focus. Had holidays
and other themes, as well.
I just wanted to pass the information along and hope it helps some of you
musicians out there. I'm grateful because the site saved me many phone calls.
Thanks for all your assistance in helping me compile a list of songs.
Shalom,
Andrea Foster, Ph.D.
