Chevrei --
This weekend I will be leading a set of workshops at the National Havurah
Committee Winter Retreat
(http://www.havurah.org/2002_new_england_retreat.htm) called "Tefilah Tunes
For The Acoustic Age". The description I wrote is as follows:
"Explore the use of contemporary music styles and the impact of these modes
on our worship experience. Learn the new melodies of some of today's most
influential composers and recording artists of original Jewish music, as
well as discuss how and when to introduce these new settings. Participants
are welcome to record this session. (Offered in two independent sessions.)"
For those you who were at the UAHC Northeast Region Biennial, it will be set
up similar to the "Music As Tefilah" workshop that Peri Smilow, Noam Katz,
Beth Schafer, and Cantor Jeff Klepper conducted this past October.
I was told last night by one of the co-chairs of the event that my workshop
has the second-most number of sign-ups (and very close to the most). While
I am doing this workshop solo (and will be including some of my own work), I
would love to be able to include material other than my own in this
workshop.
This is where you come in. I would be extremely honored if you would like
to include some of your original compositions in my workshop. If you have
any songs that you are particular fond of that you have used during tefilot
and that you would like me to use in the workshop, please feel free to send
me a chord sheet, sheet music, or an mp3 of these songs. If its going to be
on a new album, I'm sure my using them in the workshop will give you a
little pre-release publicity.
Of course, attribution will given in accordance with US copyright laws and
the minhag of this list. If there are recorded or notated (or soon-to-be)
versions for sale, workshop participants will be directed as to where to
purchase the music.
I have already spoken with three members of this list who have agreed to
send me material, and I'd like to include yours as well. If you would like
this opportunity to have a large group of people hear your music, send me
you material by Friday morning -- as I will be leaving for Cape Cod around
1:00 pm that day.
To send me material (chord sheet, sheet music, or mp3), please e-mail me
privately at steve (at) meltzerworld(dot)net or call me at home.
