[HANASHIR:13074] RE: finger picking versus strumming

I find that chording is better for the students I teach. They are young
(ages 4-10), and need a steady rhythm to stay together and not speed up. I
also allow my youngest students (4 and 5 year olds) to strum the guitar for
me while I chord. Each one has their special day to lead the song of their
choice. (By the way, I am SOOOO sick of Tapuchim u'D'vash...it's their
favorite!)

On a side bar, in general, to most of you use finger picking or strumming
when leading a service or a song session? I exclusively use chords, for a
few (not so good) reasons.

a) I actually don't really know how to finger pick, although I would like
to learn. I think that if somebody showed me I could easily figure it out,
I just...I've actually sat down and done that!

b) I work at a day camp, in which the chords are just easy, loud, and help
convey a rhythm that the kids NEED.

I've always wondered if I should change, or just alternate between picking
(if I learned!) and strumming. What do ya'll do?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
