[HANASHIR:13054] Re: Sibelius or Finale

There is another alternative, which is way cheaper than these, and seems to
be pretty ok to use, but I am a rank amateur. It's called Melody Assistant
and comes from a French company. There is an add=on called harmony
Assistant, and it seems to do the same as Sibelius and finale, but costs
about $US 15 I think. You can use a midi interface with it. You can find it
at:

http://www.myriad-online.com/melody.htm

we came upon it by accident when looking for a simple-to-use programme, and
have found it fairly good.

CodaMusic, which makes Finale, offers a free version called Finale
NotePad -- but it has very
limited capabilities. They do offer various levels of product (Allegro,
PrintMusic, FinaleGuitar,
and Finale2003), depending on the features you need and your budget. Info
on Finale can be found at
www.codamusic.com.

Also, they do offer a Finale2003 Academic/Theological Edition, which is
intended "for the use of
qualified faculty, college students, music ministers and music ministry
representatives." I'm
assuming that would include many of us, so you might want to look into this
possibility through your
synagogue (http://www.codamusic.com/coda/fin2002_acad_tradeup.asp).

You can download a demo version (which is almost the complete program) of
Sibelius and try it out before you buy it.

The same is probably true of Finale.
