Hi All!
In response to Michael's question:
"What is a GUCI songbook and is it available?"
A GUCI (Goldman Union Camp Institute) songbook happens to be one of my very,
very favorite songleading resources, and it comes from the camp where I spent
4 incredible summers! I believe that much of it comes from the old NFTY
chordster, and then there have been many, many songs added on over the years.
They had -- and still have -- a very strong singing tradition at GUCI, and
the songbook reflects it by including a huge variety of music -- traditional
and modern prayer melodies, classic and contemporary jewish music, israeli
music, lots of great folk tunes, silly songs, english, hebrew, even a bit of
yiddish, I think! I was first inspired to play the guitar and be a
songleader when I was a camper there (eleven years ago!), and my songbook
came in very handy then... and it still does now!!!
I believe you can still buy one -- you'll probably have to call or email the
camp office. Their email address is: gucioffice (at) aol(dot)com and their phone
number is: 317-873-3361. I hope you're able to get one... enjoy!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Angela Gold :-)
