[HANASHIR:12903] Sharing something I think you would like

Chevra --

All of us on this list have a passionate commitment to Judaism and Jewish
music, and are always seeking creative ways to express this commitment. I
want to tell you about a group that played at my temple recently, and they
are truly extraordinary. It's an Israeli jazz quintet called Seeds of Sun.
Made up of vocalist Michal Cohen (Ella Fitzgerald and Ofra Haza come back to
life, I kid you not); Mattan Klein, flute; Yoav Polachek, piano; Itamar
Ziegler, bass; and Yuval Lion, drums -- they are all consummate professionals
and have gigged around with top jazz players in Israel and the US. Their
repertoire consists of standards such as Nurit Hirsch's "Oseh Shalom" and
"Yerushalayim Shel Zahav," taken to the outer limits of creative artistry;
original compositions; and even some American jazz standards (they did "My
Funny Valentine" at our show -- sweet!). They can also do workshops on the
subject of Hebrew song. You can get in touch with them via their leader
Mattan Klein. He can be reached at mattanklein (at) aol(dot)com(dot) I give
them 5
stars!!!!!
