As a memeber of the volunteer choir (for a very long
time, cough cough) and being the music teacher for the
sunday school and all around big mouth (lol)...i am
usually never asked.  So, in big mouth form, I have
opened large and wide and loud.  I have asked to be on
the ritual commitee and sunday school committee and
have made it a point to ask.  
When I have asked, "why havent you asked me?" they
have said, "we thought you were to busy"...so in grand
big mouth style I said, you silly people put me on
those committee's.  What I really wanted to say is...I
am woman/mother/musician...hear me ROAR!   LOL!!!

Be vocal of what you want!  Hope you don't mind my 2
cents worth!
