[HANASHIR:12838] HA-lala-LA-la-LA-la-LEY-LU-YAH

1. Steve and Caitlin Klaper, if you're out there, please contact me by
email so I can tell you how much I love your new CD "Kavanah" !!!

2. Does anyone else want to post music or links on totshabbat.com ? I can
post your tracks in either RealAudio or mp3, your choice.

3. I discovered something about the mysterious origins of the wildly popular
HA-lala-LA-la-LA-la-LEY-LU-YAH song that Rick Lupert taught at HN'02.
Turns out it is an adaptation of a song called "Shake Another Hand" which
is popular with Boy Scouts and both secular and Christian summer camps.
There are many variations of the lyrics.

You can hear the Shirettes sing a Jewish "Shake Another Hand" on

http://www.totshabbat.com

Their Jewish adaptation is somewhat different from the one Rick Lupert
taught.

You can find lyrics and chords of a more common version on a Christian
website:

http://www.christianguitar.ws/powerpoint/Praise/Ah_La_La_La.ppt

Since this is a song that works for both Jewish and Christian youth, e.g.
like "Rise and Shine," it would be a good fit for interfaith events,
using both the original lyrics and one of the adapted Jewish versions.

I still haven't been able to figure out who actually wrote "Shake another
hand" but I'm working on it.
