[HANASHIR:12669] Re: Boker Tov / Laila Tov - Song lyrics, and a note of thanks.

Did you ever get the music to this finished so that I could have a copy?
Thanks, Margie

thanks.

Well some of you know of my struggle with severe stage fright, that I have
been
working on since HN 1999, which is where I discovered (to my complete
surprise) that I
have this Gift of writing songs. I had no inherent desire to be a Performer
... but my
songs have been tapping their toes at me, going: "We are _not_ _happy_,
sitting
silently here on your bookshelves, we want people to *sing* us!!! Now what
are _you_
going to do about it???"

So ... at HN 2002, after lunch on Friday, I shared Boker Tov / Laila Tov
with a small
group of friends. On Saturday, one person came up to me and said: "I just
wanted to
let you know that I found myself singing your song, when I went for my early
morning
walk today". On Sunday, someone else took it even further, and said: "You
are now in
my head, I can't get your song _out_ of there!"

"Yes!", said the song to me, "you did good!! Thank you!!!"

And so, in turn, I thank all of you, for listening, and for singing.

- Ros

P.S. Ellen Allard is in process of transcribing the music, which I will
post later as a PDF
file ... if we can reach an agreement on the rhythm!!! - R

P.P.S. The existing title isn't catchy enough. I am looking for something
a little less
obvious, perhaps with a pun in it. Your suggestions would be welcome! - R

BOKER TOV / LAILA TOV

(c) Ros Schwartz June 2002

At the end of the night
In the sweet morning light
Let us say Boker tov, Boker tov, Boker tov
As the sun starts to rise
Bringing joy to the skies
Let us say Boker tov, Boker tov!

Chorus:
Boker tov yeladim, Boker tov yeladot
Boker tov, Boker tov, Boker tov, Boker tov
Boker tov chaverim, Boker tov chaverot
Boker tov, Boker tov, Boker tov!

At the end of the day
As the light fades away
Let us say Laila tov, Laila tov, Laila tov
As the stars start to shine
In their wondrous design
Let us say Laila tov, Laila tov!

Chorus:
Laila tov yeladim, Laila tov yeladot
Laila tov, Laila tov, Laila tov, Laila tov
Laila tov chaverim, Laila tov chaverot
Laila tov, Laila tov, Laila tov!

Hear the rhythm and rhyme
As we cycle through time
And we say Boker tov, Laila tov, Boker tov
For the day turns to night
And the dark turns to light
And we say Boker tov, Laila tov!

Chorus:
Boker tov yeladim, Laila tov yeladot
Boker tov, Laila tov, Boker tov, Laila tov
Boker tov chaverim, Laila tov chaverot
Boker tov, Laila tov, Boker tov!

Ideas for variations:

Verse two: have the boys and girls alternate, with the girls saying "laila
tov yeladim",
the boys "laila tov yeladot", and so on through the verse.

Verse three: divide the group in half, and have one half do the "Boker
tov"s, and the
other half do the "Laila tov"s.

For more activity, have each group stand up when they sing their phrase, and
sit down
when they are done.
