[HANASHIR:12472] Re: [HANASHIR:12463] Fw: Call for Papers: Spirituality and Performance

This looks like a very interesting conference. I don't have paper
contributions, but I would love to hear more about what goes on as a result of
the conference as well as where to get information after the conference.

I do have a personal comment (which may not be in the context of the topic as
a whole,) but has to do with what Shirona <shirona (at)
bellatlantic(dot)net> wrote:

I have mentioned it before, but some Jewish members (today), who sing, do go,
when the opporuntiy arises, to the churches to sing for the following reasons:

monetary compensation
opportunities for special parts
different venues and outlets of music
four part music
lack of musical opportunities in the synagogue
professional contacts for more opportunities in the community
opportunity to promote interfaith relationships

and the bottom line is that even though the Jewish singer may not be a believer
in the xtian ideology, it is an alternative venue of worship because the singer
is doing something good for the congregants to find meaning in their own
worship prayers
