Dear All,
I have been thinking. (oy!) In the Jewish musical community, we all work
hard at sharing our love and passion for Jewish music. Adult, child, teen,
seniors - it makes no difference. Music moves us all, at some time in our
life. Read on:
I have recently become a representative for Oranim Educational Initiatives, a
company specializing in Jewish Educational Travel for all ages. While this
is a dream shidduch to me, YOU might be thinking, "Now what does a travel
company have to do with THIS SONGLEADING list?" Answer: READ ON!
As a songleader and Informal Educator, thoughts began to pervade my waking
and sleeping hours - to the point that I just HAD to share my idea with all
of YOU, first! I am now on a MISSION and looking for others that want to
join me in brainstorming a Jewish MUSICAL trip or series of trips around the
WORLD that Oranim Educational Initiatives will arrange and host with your
guidance. (It will be EXTREMELY affordable if we can get enough people to go.)
For SOME, Jewish music is one and the same with their identity. For others,
the music is just a jumping off point to a positive Jewish memory, a better
mood, a sense of belonging, or a family / community ritual. The beauty of
Jewish music is that it can be interpreted. It can take on a different
meaning to all who experience it - whether they are performing, observing,
creating, or just appreciating. How beautiful that music is inherently
customized for all levels of participation! The very thing that we all
strive to create is RIGHT under our nose. AMAZING.
What if we all got together and created some sort of 10 day experience for
teens through seniors that would include performing, attending, and visiting
relevant Jewish musical sites around the world?
I am ready to devote my time and energy to this! I just need some thoughts
about the 5 W's and an H. Who? What? When? Why? Where? How? There are
zillions of possibilities!
Initial thoughts to get the discussion going:
Who?
Congregational choirs, teens, seniors, youth groups, camps, Jewish schools,
college campus groups
What?
Combination of performing, sharing, listening to, and travelling to Jewish
musical venues.
When?
Open to thoughts or suggestions
Where?
Europe? Israel? Spain? Italy? China? (I'm leaning toward Europe and Israel)
Why?
Because we can!
How?
Oranim Educational Initiatives will arrange this at an affordable price to
make this possible. Maybe we can find local grants to send our kids? Maybe
local communities would be responsible for raising the appropriate funds?
Other ideas?
PLEASE ADD TO MY THOUGHTS!!! I can't wait to hear from all of you about this!
Warm Regards,
Scott Newman
