This sounds like Great Big Stars Way Up Yonder, adapted by Rachel Buchman in
her songbook for Jewish children.  She places it in the Sukkot section.  I
would think it was derived from an African-American spiritual.  I believe
the publisher of Rachel Buchman's book (worth having for pre-school
teachers) is Mel Bay.
