HOSHANA RABBA - 9 p.m.- SHEMA FOR VICTIMS OF TERROR
According to Jewish tradition, Hoshana Rabba (Thursday night, Sept. 26) is
a final chance to overturn whatever difficult decrees that might have been
written on Rosh Hashana. It is a day dedicated to intense prayer.
As such, our most basic prayer, the Shema, is the focus of a worldwide effort
scheduled for this year's Hoshana Rabba. At 9 p.m.(everyone according to his
local time) on Hoshana Rabba, Jews in many communities will stop what they are
doing and say the Shema prayer, wherever they are, to merit the victims of
terror -- for a complete and speedy recovery and for those who are no longer
physically with us, to merit their soul.
This Hoshana Rabba Shema effort has the endorsement of the Bostoner Rebbe,
Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Horowitz, shlita, amongst many other gedolim and rabbonim
both in Eretz Yisrael and here.
The Shema prayer is comprised of six words: Shema Yis-ra-el A-do-noi
E-lo-hei-nu A-d-noi E-chad Translation: Hear, Israel,the Almighty is our G-d,
the Almighty is the One and Only. Hear and Accept, the Omnipresent is our G-d
the Omnipresent is One.
So, please recite the Shema at 9 p.m.(local time) on Thursday, Sept. 26th
(Hoshana Rabba) and continue to say it twice daily, on arising and retiring, to
merit the victims of terror -- and yourself!
This effort is coordinated by the Shema Yisrael Now committee, which seeks
to raise awareness of the importance and protective power of the Shema
prayer. More information on the Shema effort can be found at

Warmly,
Rabbi Packouz
