[HANASHIR:12163] what is "great music"

Recently, I was a guest soloist for a congregation in IL and after the
service an older congregant came up to me, praising me for using some old
familiar tunes. He told me he really does not like the "new stuff". I
thanked him saying that I have an appreciation for the "old stuff", but let
us not forget-even the classics were ONCE contemporary (i.e. new stuff).
That the Adon Olam I sang was proably once thought of as "new stuff" and not
appreciated. He thought for a minute, and said "You are right. Perhaps I
should give the new stuff a chance."

A lot of it depends on attitude and a willingness to preserve our heritage
while expanding our heritage for the next generation.

It will ALL be classic some day...
