Hi,
I am sending this out to several groups as a result of a query I had
about some good interfaith readings/prayers. I heard this one at an
Interreligious Council meeting last night which moved me to tears--so, I
would like to share it with all of you.
Marsha
By Whatever Name
God,
When Ahmenhotep prayed to Amun-Re,
Did you hear him?
And when the Buddha
Sat beneath the Juniper tree,
Did you hear him?
God, I know you heard when Abraham
Called upon Yahweh;
And I doubt not you heard when
Jesus knelt in the Garden
And prayed, "Abba, Father."
But what about Muhammed
When he prostrated himself before Allah,
Did you hear him?
And when Sitting Bull
Entreated the Great Spirit,
Did you hear him?
And God, what about the Re-Imaginist,
Who, in our day,
Worships Sophia,
The Goddess of Wisdom,
Do you hear her?
Hush, my child,
And let me remind you,
"I have other sheep
That do not belong to this fold.
I must bring them also. . .
So there will be one flock,
One shepherd."
And those, therefore, who call upon me,
I will not turn away,
No matter what they call me!
