[HANASHIR:12060] Live from Hong Kong...

Hey Everybody!

This is my official hello from Hong Kong! I arrived here on Tuesday afternoon,
after a 15-hour flight from Las Vegas.
The flight was wonderful, and all of my belongings made it here as well, so I
am off to a great start! I have had an exciting time so far, despite the
jet-lag. I am staying in the Bishop Lei International House, a hotel that is
an 8-minute walk from the building which houses the United Jewish Congregation
(where I am working) and the Jewish Community Center. I'm on the 21st floor,
with a wonderful view of the city, the harbor, and the Kowloon side of Hong
Kong, plus the mountainous areas in the distance. In the evening on the day I
arrived, there was a beautiful rainbow over the harbor, and I took a photo of
it out my window. I'll send it along when I can...

Hong Kong seems like an exciting place, and I can't wait to get out and do some
exploring. It is very humid here, and this island is very hilly -- I'm not
complaining, just pointing out the contrast from the flatness of St. Louis and
the dryness of Denver! I'm glad I'll be getting a good amount of exercise,
walking up those hills!

The day after I arrived, I looked at about 10 different apartments, and
hopefully I will come to some kind of decision about living arrangements soon.
The cost of living is very high here, and apartments are quite small, yet still
expensive. As for the job, I have met most of the office staff, and a few
congregants so far, and everyone seems very warm and friendly. I am really
excited about leading my first Shabbat service here tonight!

So, that's it for now! If there's anyone I may have inadvertently left out of
this email, please pass this along to them!

And... should anyone want to reach me for any reason, the number at the hotel
(I'll be there until the 30th) is: (852) 2868-0828 (room 2105). (The
10-10-275 number makes it cheap to call from the u.s. -- something like 6 cents
per minute (more info at www.1010275.com)).

My mailing address at work is:

Angela Gold
United Jewish Congregation
1 Robinson Place
70 Robinson Road

If you are interested in checking out the website of this congregation, the
address is: http://www.ujc.org.hk

Hugs,
Angela
