[HANASHIR:12028] Re: films - a caution

Regarding films:
I'd like to make a suggestion regarding any film you may wish to show during
the High Holy Days; indeed, any time for a Jewish audience. You may wish to
preview it first. For instance, the movie, The Governess was nothing that I
expected it to be. The main character is a Sephardic Jewish teen whose
father dies suddenly. She decides to help support her widowed mother by
hiring out as a governess to a Christian family. First she lies about her
religion, then she has an affair with the husband, humiliates his wife
before guests, drives his son to madness, steals from the family and runs
away to set herself up in a photography business. In the film every immoral
deed is rationalized so that she is entitled to commit it. I was dismayed
at this portrayal of "Judaism."
Be well,
Linda Sharff
