Dear Chevre,
I have just returned to the office after my time at CAJE 27. I
appreciated Adrian's CAJE update several days ago, which captured some of
the spirit of the broad range of incredible entertainment this year! A few
additions...
It was great to see Larry Milder on stage at CAJE and to hear his
music and amazing guitar work.
On Monday night (August 5), Marge Eiseman and I each had the
opportunity to share our music at a late-night Cafe (for which we were very
grateful!) We missed Rob Tobias, who was scheduled to appear as well. Ken
Rabow added his special percussion to our music. Steve Meltzer and Ken Rabow
joined Sam Glaser in kumsitzes at the end of pre-conference (I wasn't at CAJE
yet, but heard it was great!) and on Wednesday night (after which Steve
shared some of his music). Angela Gold sang several songs with the Baal Shem
Tones on Tuesday.
One of the aspects of the Wednesday night at the "finale" that stood
out was the conducting of the Youth Chorale by Carol Boyd Leon, the cantor's
Concert by Charki Dunn, and the CAJE Chorale by Steve Dropkin and Lisa Tzur.
The performances were very impressive, but I particularly noticed the
conducting techniques used by these talented musicians. Kol hakavod!
I enjoyed seeing many other Hava Nashira participants whom I have met
at OSRUI and through this list!
I came back home with 8 new CDs and lots to think about for the coming
months in the way of music and, of course, sermons. Take care, everyone!
