Call to Jewish Educators

Dear Educators:

The Melton Coalition for Creative Interaction is pleased to invite you
to submit a lesson plan that teaches a Jewish content-based discipline
through the arts.

MeltonArts.org is a creative Jewish web site that seek to promote
learning Judaism through the arts. The site is sponsored by The Jewish
Theological Seminary in New York City, The Hebrew University in
Jerusalem, Israel and The Ohio State University Jewish Studies
Department in Columbus, Ohio.

We are actively seeking Jewish artists to present their artwork on our
web site and be a part of this innovative program for creative Jewish
arts education.

The goal for the website is to:
ÿ Highlight the role of the arts in Jewish education,
ÿ Post ideas, lesson plans and resources for educators,
ÿ Provide a space for dialogue among artists and educators,
ÿ Showcase Jewish and Israeli educational artistic experiences.

If your lesson plan is selected to appear on our site, Jewish educators
and lay people all over the world will see it. If your school has a web
site you may place a link with your lesson plan that leads back to your
web site. We have developed some suggestions to assist you in
submissions of lesson plans for MeltonArts.org and will be happy to help
you in any possible way to simplify the submission process.

General instructions
ß The lesson could be:
A lesson on a Jewish subject or values
A creative response to what has been learned
A way of integrating the arts* in general with Judaism
A way to introduce art midrash by different artists and different
mediums ß The lesson should raise new questions and thoughts about the
learnt issue ß The arts form should be appropriate to the subjects
learnt. ß The lesson plan should be age appropriate.
ß Lesson plans should be submitted over the Internet *Arts-Visual arts
and the performing arts

Lesson plan should include the following:
v Unit Topic
v Core concepts
v Objective
v Step by step instructional sequence
v Materials list
v Bibliography or other necessary resources
v How evaluation was performed
v Photographs of students? finished work

The lesson should be one you've used successfully in the classroom.
It should be one that motivated your students.
The lesson should be clearly written and include step-by-step
directions; it should be replicable, and understandable to anyone who
reads it. We suggest that submitters ask someone who is totally
unfamiliar with the lesson to read it before it is submitted. Is there
anything that person doesn't understand? If so, clarify it before
submitting the lesson.
The lesson might be completely original or it might have been adapted
from another source. If the lesson is adapted, it should include some
original elements.
The original source should be credited in the appropriate space on the
submittal form. The final project should be creative, done with skill,
and reflect thoughtfulness.

We value your contribution for the new website. Please send lesson
plans to:
