The orignal poem by Imber had eight verses, and the chorus (od lo avda)
included the lines mishuv lieretz avoteinu/lair ba david chana. The composer
who set it to the tune we use now, suggested the change of wording.
It is important to remember that Imber would travel between the different
settlements in Palestine, declaiming his poetry. He would change the poems
over time, editing "in the field" as it were.
Both the Moldau and Hatikvah are based on a Romanian folk song called "Horse
and Cart."
