[HANASHIR:11329] Question on Cannons (the musical kind)...

For the musicologists among us:
It is known that many of the popular Jewish songs we sing have been adapted
from older (presumably non-Jewish) cannons or "rounds". These include
versions of:
Hava Nashira, Ma Tovu, Hashiveinu, Shalom Aleichem, Mi Ma'amakim, and, yes,
Hodu La-sultan, among others. (Maybe even the "old" Hinei Ma Tov?)
Could anyone hazard a best guess as to the century of composition for the
first two, Hava Nashira and Ma Tovu?
Posts either public or private are fine.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff Klepper
