[HANASHIR:10734] Re: A special Request

Hi All,
I just received the following requaest from a friend who is a music
professor at Wartburg College in Northern Iowa. I gave him some
suggestions, referred him to Transcon., and told him about all the great
acapella college groups that have sprung up around the country. If any
of you know specific people he can contact, I know he would be most
appreciative.( And I would, too)
Marsha

Wartburg College Choir, a very fine mixed choir of about 90 voices, will
be traveling to Europe this April/May. They are going to England,
Germany, Poland, Italy among other places. I will
also be going with them. I will be singing some American song as a
soloist but will also be singing some pieces with the choir. This is
where I'm looking for your assistance. Among the places we will be
going is to Auschwitz. In consulting with the choir director, we are
looking for pieces which would be appropriate for this type of setting
and could also be used as part of a larger concert since
we will be giving full concerts in many venues of various types. Here's
the tricky part: We need pieces for mixed choir AND a baritone soloist
(this would be me). Also, the pieces must be acapella since all the
pieces Wartburg choir does is acapella. We are looking to do about 2-3
pieces or 10-12 minutes. So, if you have one really long piece, that's
fine too. Some ideas we came up with are a setting of Mourner's
Kaddish, a setting of something from the Book of Lamentations, or
perhaps something used during the Yom Kippur Yitzkor service. Another
thought I had was music from the holiday which commemorates the
destruction of the temple (Tish B'Av ?? perhaps??).
If you could E-mail me titles and composer's names as well as
publishing houses and any order info. you might have including possible
websites, I would be eternally grateful. Obviously, I could use the
info. ASAP since we are leaving for Europe Mid-April and need ample time
to order and learn the works.
Thanks so much for your time and consideration! David Katz
