Years ago, Gilly Gilly Good Shabbat was a standard at the Montreal JCC
Pre-school
and mom and tot programs where I was teaching at the time.  Its bouncy
simplicity
made it a big hit with the littlest ones.  It is a song that was passed down
through the years by teachers who didn't necessarily have any Jewish or
Hebrew experience and, like broken telephone, is likely to have been changed
or mis-pronounced.  I always liked it, but have hesitated to use it since
because I don't know if the second verse is a mispronunciation of a Hebrew
word or not?  Is this the one the person who was originally asking about the
song was seeking the authorship for, and is it the one you wrote, Jill?  If
so, can you explain the second verse?
