Everything. So much of Jewish life is wrapped around food... Debbie is
reminding us, who have so much, to remember those who are hungry and
homeless, every time we eat. Similarly, the organization Mazon asks each
person to donate 3% of the cost of every party or simcha you host. In this
way they have been able to give millions of dollars to hungry people of all
faiths. Don McLean had a great song, years ago, called "Orphans of
Wealth", that pounded the message home. Debbie's song does it with a
gentle smile. Either way we must respond. And what better day than
Thanksgiving, a day most of us eat till we drop, to remind ourselves of
this mitzvah!
