Brilliant thinking, for the learner and subsequently the gabbai to use hand
shapes to communicate t'amei hamikra.
I assume that the origin of the written trop is thought to echo pre-existing
hand signs, just as the neumes of early Western musical notation (Gregorian
chant) probably also did.
For the gentleman who is planning on communication about his hand signs on
paper, there are pen-and-ink artists who do a great job of representing the
handshapes and movements of American Sign Language. Maybe you could hook up
with one of them?
