When I learned trop my four year old happened to be sitting on the floor 
coloring and the Cantor grabbed her crayons and color coded the trop 
"families." Then she explained that sometimes the entire family was not 
present. For example, Mother Mercha and Father Tipcha were here but Brother 
Munach was at soccer practice so he wasn't here but Sister Sof Pasuk was 
here. 

I know it sounds a little silly but that's how I teach my sixth grade 
students trop - that they fall in families and they get it. It also adds a 
little humor late in the day. 

Those hand signals sound great; they're not published are they?
