[HANASHIR:9927] Re: music for "Holiday" concerts in public schools

In response to Meryl Weiner's request for choral music to be used in
public schools, please note that the following choral compositions
exist and should be available in current publishers' catalogues. If
the choir directors in local high schools are really trying to
present a broad spectrum of music for the winter holiday season,
please feel free to suggest any of the following selections. (I have
not included "Hallelujah, Amen" from Handel's "Judas Maccabeus",
although it gets a good response from audiences and is a little
easier on high voices than the more familiar chorus from "Messiah",
and ought to be part of the repertoire. Several editions exist.) The
list below will list the title, the voicing (and duplicate letters
indicate divided voice parts), the composer/arranger, and the
publisher and publication number. If you find (*) at the end of a
listing, contact the International Archive of Jewish Music (by e-mail
at <zipmusic (at) bignet(dot)net>) to find out where to call or write.
Accompaniment is usually piano, and exceptions are indicated. Please
save this list for future reference.
