Callie,
Ditto to Danny's suggestion. I've been using Cakewalk Scorewriter for a
few years now. The learning curve is not nearly as complicated as some
of the others, and it's a great buy for the $.
It includes many of the features of more expensive software, like
inputing of notation via playing it on a MIDI keyboard. You'd need a
MIDI interface card as well, if you want to do that. However, imagine
playing anything which comes to mind on the keyboard and seeing it
instantly come up in notation on your screen. Pretty cool!
Good luck.
