A powerful song is "They Are Falling All Around Me", originally by Sweet Honey
in the Rock. Holly Near also sings it. We sing it at Yom Kippur and also at
funerals of important and beloved shul members. I learned it from the copy of
a tape, I fear, so I can't provide music or where to find it (I could make &
mail a tape if need be).
Quick lyrics:
1. They are falling all around me (3x), the strongest leaves from my tree,
2. Every paper brings the news (3x) that the teachers of my sound are moving on
3. Death comes and rests so heavy (3x), your face I'll never see, never see you
any more
4. But you're not really gonna leave me (3x)
It is your path I walk,
It is your [a few more lines with the same idea. cresc. poco a poco]
It's the record you set that makes me go on
It's your strength that helps me stand
You're not really, you're not really gonna leave me
5. I will try to sing my song right (3x), be sure to let me hear from you

Has anyone done a creative Yizkor service? For our Yom Kippur service, we
are looking at adding some music from outside Gates of Repentance and I'm
looking for ideas.
Thanks,
Rachelle
