Want a report from Northern Virginia?

Ok, you may not exactly think of this area as a hotbed of Judaism. In
reality, however, there are lots of synagogues in these Washington, DC
suburbs. And maybe we're making the map... the entire Jewish community is
holding its first annual (how's that for confidence?) Jewish Cultural
Festival on Sunday in Reston Town Center. It's sponsored by the local JCC
and will have hundreds, well, dozens of Jewish organizations represented and
an afternoon of music. We can't exactly brag about having big-name
performers on stage, but my not-so-big Community Youth Choir will be the
afternoon's last performance; these kids may be small in stature but they've
got very big Jewish hearts...

As for how Jewish music has affected my life, the best word to describe it
is "profoundly." I'll offer this as proof: I'm having an adult bat mitzvah
in a week, and it started with my deciding to teach the "Alef Bet Song" some
years ago but being frustrated because I didn't yet know how to read
Hebrew... :-)
