Adrian, I totally agree with you.  But why stop there?
 Why not mention that you have to be black to play the
blues?  German to play Bach, Catholic to live in
Spain.  As repugnant as I found your comments, I'm
even more disturbed by the fact that no one made a
peep about it.  Everyone is so content and complacent,
comfortable with being in the "in" group.

I've been easing away from organized Judaism for some
time now, mostly because of the "chosen people"
mentality that dominates the landscape.  I don't
expect to change anyone's mind.  It's so insidious as
to be omnipresent.  It's almost like arguing with a
Jehovah's witness..... No matter where the
conversation begins, you know darn well that it's
going to come around to the usual "Jesus is the
savior" rap.

It doesn't feel so different to me in the Jewish
world.  It's all about "us" as opposed th "them" with
perhaps a little lip service about interfaith and
ecology, but mostly it's "asher bachar banu mi cal ha
amim".   Nope, no more.  The statute of limitations is
up.  I'm gone.....
