Greetings chevra --
On the NFTY recording of music from the Swig and Newman camps in California
(I think the CD is called Shireinu MiLibeinu) there is a rendition of Shalom
Aleichem by a Rabbi Shmuel Brazil. I have taught it to kids and adults in my
congregation and they all love it. We generally sing it in the 3-part
harmony that's on the recording. I have since heard it recorded (and
performed stunningly!) in lush 6-part harmony by the outstanding a cappella
group Beat'achon, who are clearly from the Modern Orthodox end of the
spectrum. So here is a tune with universal appeal.
So who is Shmuel Brazil, where is he from, and has he written anything else
that I can get to know and love? Many thanks!
