[HANASHIR:8906] Re: Grace Before Meals

As a lurker I had to smile at this thread... I am Sam Adler's daughter and
although he has written so much more significant music we joke that one of
the "pieces" that he wrote that will have the longest staying power is "the
Motzi". He wrote it for a kindergarden children's choir in Dallas (when he
was the music director at Temple Emanuel) and people started singing it at
Biennial and it caught on. Although it is only about 50 years old people are
always astonished to learn that the composer who wrote it is still alive (by
the way, dad is no longer at Eastman. He is now teaching at Julliard and
commuting to and from Ohio)! There are so many versions of the words -- you
can really tell the region of the country or the camp that someone went to
from which version!

Anyway, your comments about different words brings back many memories of
people (including family members at family gatherings) SURE that their
version is the right one! :)
For personal reasons I hope that this tune is used for many years to come and
I thank you to those of you who know the composer!
L'Shalom,
Naomi Adler, soon to be moving to Temple Beth Torah in Upper Nyack with my
husband Rabbi Brian Beal.
