[HANASHIR:8889] Re: Kabbalat Shabbat

I am the "songleading" (guitar) part of a new Kabbalat Shabbat Service on
Fridays from 6-6:45 p.m. at Temple Beth Torah in Wellington (Reform). We are
"experimenting" through May and I was wondering if anyone else was involved
in this type of Service. Since there is no "history" to the music "that's
been included forever," I'm also experimenting with mostly "newer" music from
Craig Taubman - Rom'mu, L'cha Dodi, Debbie Friedman - World of Your Dreams -
going with the idea that everyone is singing it to each other as a way of
blessing each other instead of a formal final benediction, Doug Cotler (Bayom
Hahu), Haporeis S. Shalom (Jeff & Danny - not new, but a new song for peace
that not everyone knows and is beautiful), etc. We've averaged from 20-40
congregants in the first 3 weeks and we've very pleased with the turnout and
response. Is anyone else involved in this type of Service? Any suggestions?
We are also trying to tie in a short song with the short weekly drash. I've
been preparing song sheets each week as well and last week added some "song
leading" techniques to draw some more voices out and it was great. If anyone
lives in the area, we're definitely continuing through May and then the
committee will decide from there - re: summer, etc. We'd welcome any
suggestions!
